E.V.S Revision Matter and its Properties
Fill in the blank:-
- Objects that take up space and have mass/weight are called matter.
- Matter is anything that is made up of atoms and molecules.
- An atom is the smallest particle of any substance/matter.
- Two or more than two atoms together are called molecules.
- Solids have a definite shape, mass, and volume.
- Liquids have definite volume, but no definite shape.
- Gases have no definite shape, but has mass and volume.
- Microscope is used to see an atom.
Answer the following:
Q1) What is matter?
Ans-Matter is anything, such as a solid, liquid or gas, that has weight (mass) and occupies space.
Q2) Write the difference between solid, liquid and gas.
Q3) What happens when?
1.Water is boiled
Ans: It changes to water vapour.
- Mango milkshake is kept in the freezer.
Ans: It will freeze and becomes solid
Write true or false:-
1. The air without the fragrance of perfume is not matter. False
2. Dirt around us is matter. True
3. All matter is made up of molecules. True
4. There are millions of atoms and molecules. True
5. Atoms cannot be seen with naked eyes. True
6. Atoms of different matter are different. True
7. Atoms occupy space. True
8.Atoms are countless. True
Give Reasons :-
1. Ice changes to water when taken out of freezer
Ans: Ice changes to water because temperature changes.
- The smell of burning incense stick spread in the room -
Ans: The smell of burning incense sticks spread in the room because the molecules of gas (smoke coming out of incense stick) are loosely held and thus able to move around freely.
3.Vapours from hot milk do not remain stationary as milk
Ans. Atoms and molecules that make up the milk vapours live far apart and move around freely unlike the atoms and molecules of the milk.
4.All materials occupy space.
Ans. Matter is anything, such as a solid, liquid or gas, that has weight (mass) and occupies space. Therefore, all materials occupy space.
