Ans. 1) Soil is formed by the weathering of rocks. 

     2) Weathering is breaking down rocks into smaller      pieces. 

    3) When these smaller pieces of rock break down further, they form sand. 

    4) This sand along with the decaying plants and animals and living matter forms the soil.


b. State any two ways of soil conservation.

c. What is the weathering of rocks? 

Ans. Weathering is the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on Earth's surface. 


d. What is soil erosion? 

Ans. When the top fertile layer of the soil is washed away by natural forces like water or wind, it is called soil erosion.


e. Describe clayey soil.

Ans. 1)Clayey soil can hold lots of water. 

         2) This soil is heavy, because of the small size of the particles. 


 f. List the causes of soil erosion. 

Ans. 1) Rainfall and Flooding. Higher intensity of rainstorms is the main cause of soil erosion
