COMPUTER: Chapter -4 Logical Thinking (Workbook work)

                                                             4. Logical Thinking

Q.1. Select the correct option.

1. A cup of coffee costs Rs.3. You have Rs. 96. How many coffee cups can you afford?

a. 29

b. 30

c. 32

d. 34

Solution:96/3= 32 coffees.

2. Look at this series: 53,40, 27, ... What number should come next?

a. 14

b. 12

c. 40

d. 53

Solution: In this series,13 is subtracted to arrive at the next number.

3. Which two pieces of paper, when put together, will make the given shape?

4. Choose the correct mirror image of the given figure.

5. A postcard and stamp together cost Rs.150. The postcard costs one hundred more than the stamp. How much does the stamp cost?

a. 50

b. 100

c. 25

d. 10

Solution: Postcard + stamp = 150

A postcard costs 100 more than a stamp which means:

Postcard = stamp + 100

Therefore, Postcard + stamp =150

      Stamp +100 =150

 Stamp= 150-100

Therefore, Stamp = 50

Q.2. What do you understand by logical thinking? Explain the terms goal, information and condition.

Solution: Logical thinking is the ability to find the goal, information and conditions in a problem and then use a step-by-step approach to solve it. It includes understanding the problem, breaking it down into smaller parts and then finding a step-by-step approach to solve it.

àGoal: A goal is what you want to achieve at the end of the task.

àInformation: Information refers to details given in the problem statement.

àCondition: Conditions are rules that you have to follow while performing a task.

Q.3. Solve the given problems using logical thinking.

a. In a particular coding system, ‘PEN’ is written as ‘NZO’ and ‘BARK’ as ‘CTSL’.  How can ‘PRANK’ be written in that coding system?

Ans: NSTOL

Solution: In the coding system, PEN’ is written as ‘NZO’ and ‘BARK’ as ‘CTSL’.

So, ‘PRANK’ will be written as ‘NSTOL’.

b. Today is Wednesday. Garima's birthday is on the 3rd day after today. On which day of the week will she celebrate her birthday?

Ans: Saturday

Solution: Today is Wednesday

Next day= Thursday

2nd day after today =Friday

Therefore 3rd day after today= Saturday

c. How many triangles are there in the figure? Name all of them. One of them is done for you- Triangle ADE

Solution: 6 Triangles

Triangle: ADE, ADC, ABF, CBF, DCF, and AFC.

d. At the baseball game, Raja was sitting on seat 153. Mayra was sitting to the right of Raja on seat 154. Shivam was sitting to the left of Raja. Juhi was sitting to the left of Shivam. Which seat number was Juhi sitting in?

Ans: Seat number= 151

e. A boulder, a cobble, and a pebble are in a gorge, a lake, and a valley. The rock in the valley is larger than the cobble. The cobble is not in the lake. Where is each rock? Use the table below to find the solution.

Solution:"The rock in the valley is larger than the cobble."

This means the cobble cannot be in the valley, and the rock in the valley must be eitherthe boulder or the pebble. Since the boulder is larger than the pebble, the boulder must be in the valley.

"The cobble is not in the lake."

This means the cobble cannot be in the lake, so it must be in the gorge.

Since the cobble is in the gorge, and the boulder is in the valley, the remaining option is that the pebble is in the lake.

f. Based on the pattern shown, draw the next figure.
