C. Explain the following terms.

a. Season

Ans - A season is a period of the year marked by changes in weather. Summer, winter,

monsoon, autumn and spring are the five main seasons in India.

 

b. Weather

Ans - The atmospheric conditions of a particular place at a particular time is called

weather.

 

c. Wind

Ans - Moving air is called wind.

 

 

D. Answer the following questions in 3 to 5 sentences.

a. What is air pollution?

Ans - When dust particles, smoke and other harmful substances mix with air, the air

gets polluted. Polluted air is harmful for humans, animals and plants.

When we inhale polluted air, it causes many health problems such as headaches,

respiratory disorders, asthma, etc.

 

b. List the gases present in air.

Ans - Air is a mixture of gases namely oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and

water vapour.

 

c. State how water pollution can be prevented.

Ans - Water pollution can be prevented by:

1. Not putting oil, grease, medicines and cleaning agents down the sink or

toilets.

2. Not disposing garbage in water bodies.

3. Not disposing industrial waste in water bodies without treating it first.

4. Cleaning polluted water bodies such as rivers, seas and oceans.

 

 

d. State the factors affecting change in weather.

Ans - Changes in weather are caused by the sun, clouds, rain and wind.


e. Name the components of air.

Ans: Oxygen, Nitrogen, Carbon dioxide, Water Vapour.

 

f. What is the use of wind energy?

Ans: Wind energy is used to generate electricity using wind mills.


g. Define the three Rs of water management.

Ans: Reduce the consumption of water, Reuse used water and Recycle water by collecting and reusing it.



h. What is rainwater harvesting?

Ans: Storing rain water by collecting it for future use is called rain water harvesting.
