Answer the following questions in two to three sentences.

1. What is the difference between a shrub and herbs? 

                                    Shrub                                                                         Herbs

2. What is a herb? Give 2 examples.

Ans. Herbs have tender and flexible stem and they grow very close to ground. Examples: mint, basil

3. What are shrubs? Give 2 examples.

Ans.Shrubs have hard but thin woody stems and their branches grow close to the ground.

Examples: Rose plant, Tulsi      

4. What are trees? Give 2 examples.

Ans. Trees are thick and strong trunk with many branches growing high above the ground. Examples- Mango tree, Banyan tree.

5. Name some leaves that we use in our day-to-day life. 

Ans. Coriander, mint spinach and cabbage leaves we use in our day-to-day life.

6.What is the time before the birth of Jesus Christ is called? 

Ans. BC/BCE  

7.What is the time after the birth of Jesus known as? 

Ans.AD/CE  

8.What is the full form of A.D.? 

Ans.Anno Domini, in the year of the lord.

9.What is History? 

Ans: History is the study of past events.

10. Who are historians?

Ans: A person who studies history or the past is called historians.

11. What is a timeline? 

Ans: A timeline is the representation of events over a period of time.

12. How are events arranged on a timeline? 

Ans: Events arranged on a timeline are in chronological order.

13. Why are timelines important?

Ans: As it helps us to understand time lapses between events.

14. Why are leaves called the food factory of plants?

Ans: The leaf prepares food for the whole plant so it is known as food factory. 

15. What is photosynthesis?

Ans: The leaves use sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to prepare their food. This process is known as photosynthesis. 

16. Name the flowers which can be eaten? 

Ans: Cauliflower and broccoli.

17. State the functions of fruit.

Ans: a) The fruit protects the seed inside it.

b) Seeds from the fruit give rise to new plants.
