24. The Past Tense

1. Fill in the blanks with the past tense of the verbs given in the brackets.

a. Mother went to the theatre yesterday evening. (go)

b. Smita found a school bag in the garden. (find)

c. The villagers lit a fire and danced around it. (light)

d. The cat lapped a bowl full of milk. (lap)

e. Mohan broke the crystal vase. (break)

f. I walked more than two kilometres today. (walk)

2. Answer the questions with the help of words given in the bracket. The first one is done for you as an example.

3. Fill in the blanks with a suitable helping verb that shows a past action.

4. Change the following sentences from present continuous tense to past continuous tense. The first one has been done for you as an example.

c) The soldiers are marching bravely.

d) My pet bulbul is flying around the room.

5. Complete the paragraph with the suitable past tense form of the verbs given in the brackets.

Last evening, the people of Gaya were (was/were) busy doing various things. Some children were making (make) paper boats to sail in the puddles. The miller was grinding (grind) the corn. A lady was buying (buy) a kilo of apples at the market. The milkmaid was milking (milk) her cow but the cow kicked the pail. Few carpenters were sawing (saw) the logs when it began raining heavily.
