1. A pet or a companion animal is an animal kept for a person’s company or protection. Pet animals provide their owners with both mental and physical benefits. Some owners enjoy their pet’s company on a run or a walk. Walking a dog can give both the human and the pet the opportunity to exercise, fresh air and social interaction. A pet also provides elderly adults social companionship. A pet is usually considered a family member. The most popular pets are dogs and cats. Some people also keep reptiles, aquatic animals, rabbits and birds as their pets.
